Aadhaar Credentials Shared Through Aadhaar App Are Valid for Identity Verification: UIDAI

Chandigarh, 12 May 2026: The Unique Identification Authority of India Regional Office Chandigarh has informed that Aadhaar credentials shown, shared and/or verified through the Aadhaar App are legally valid for establishing the identity of an Aadhaar number holder.

The Aadhaar App, launched by UIDAI, enables Aadhaar number holders to securely show, share and verify their identity digitally through mobile devices. The app is available on both Android and iOS platforms and provides residents with a convenient, paperless and secure mode of identity verification.

While sharing identity details through the Aadhaar App with an Offline Verification Seeking Entity (OVSE), the full 12-digit Aadhaar number is not transferred. Residents can choose to share either complete or partial identity details as per their requirement, thereby enhancing privacy and user control.

UIDAI has clarified that Aadhaar credentials shared through the Aadhaar App hold the same validity as other accepted forms of Aadhaar such as Aadhaar Letter, e-Aadhaar, Masked e-Aadhaar, Aadhaar PVC Card and m-Aadhaar.

All Ministries, Departments, State Governments, Autonomous Bodies and other agencies accepting Aadhaar as proof of identity have been requested to recognise Aadhaar credentials shared through the Aadhaar App as a valid proof of identity and issue necessary instructions accordingly.

The Regional Office Chandigarh has encouraged residents across Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and Chandigarh to adopt digital Aadhaar verification for faster, secure and seamless service delivery.
